When I researched the name of JIBO is said, "strong inner urge to be of service in some way that would uplift humanity as a whole." They also said they love people. Also something else that is really cool is the fundraiser that it is doing with Indiegogo. There goal was intended for $100,000 and instead got $2,289,606 in US dollars.
JIBO is 11 inches tall and weighs about 6 pounds, and is a robotic machine that was made for people to use at home and to be a companion/helper around the house. If you watched the video, they refured to JIBO as "he" This was also to be made for to sit and will learn from the most of the household activities take place. JIBO can also be for your kids to use If you are thinking that JIBO moves, he does not!!
From the Indiegogo page it talks about that you will have to connect it to your WiFi (which is needed), teach it to recognize you voice and face, learn what it can do, and download the app. IF you are concerned about the "safety & privacy" they talked about it in the FAQ's.
Reports have said that JIBO will be ready to be shipped out for the per-orders by December 2015 with a price tage from $499 to $899 depending on what pre-order you go with.
So, after reading and watching this video, and researching more, I wold like to ask a few questions, and you can answer them in the comments below. (Keep them clean...)
1. If you had the money would you by JIBO, and would you get one for you friend?
2. Would you tell other people about JIBO?
3. What do you like or don't like about JIBO?
And, what are any other comments do you have that you would like to share...
If I had $599 or $699 to just waist away, yes I would buy it. But let's be honest, I am a broke college student. Even in the future though I would not waist $599 or $699 on an alarm clock that can record my every move and talk to me. I mean my smart phone can do the same thing and I get a whole lot more use out of it than I would a talking alarm clock. Yes JIBO is awesome and looks cool, but it's a little creepy! This thing is recording and storing it 24/7! While I'm sleeping, eating, showering, etc. I feel like it's a little bit of an evasion of privacy if someone could hack into it.
Well, that is what I thought as well, but they tell you to leave JIBO in the area of the most family interaction... Also I do agree with you on the with it watching you 24/7, that would be a bit creepy, but our phones and other electronics devices do that to sometimes...
I don't think i would buy it at the moment. However, as homes continue to become more and more integrated with technology, I think JIBO and other products like it will be common place things that are very useful.
